The rapper was born Danielle Balbuena in North Bergen, New Jersey, in 1997. Some of her nicknames include Dani, Shake and Yellow Girl. According to NJ.com, the 26-year-old was a basketball star at her North Bergen High School.
Her rapper name holds meaning too. Her record label Def Jam claims that “070 Shake” is a tribute to her city’s zip code and that she’s also a member of the New Jersey collective 070.
Her musical prowess
Balbuena made her music debut back in 2015 with the 070 music collective before going solo in 2018 with her debut EP Glitter. She’s since released two more albums, Modus Vivendi (2020) and You Can’t Kill Me (2022), and has opened for several big names in the industry including The 1975 and Kid Cudi. It didn’t take long for industry giants like Kanye West to recognise her raw talent and start working with her. In 2016, the youngster signed with West’s label Good Music and went on to appear in music videos for Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband’s “Ghost Town” and “Violent Crimes” from the album Ye. The American artist is also signed with Def Jam.

070 Shake’s music is often labelled as hip-hop, but she resists being confined to any particular genre. “With me, any session I go into I want to be completely open, and not put me into a box,” she told Rolling Stone. “If you put me in a box, then I’m going to take myself out the box.”
Her inspirations include The Beatles, John Mayer and Kid Cudi as she favours artists with “feeling”.
