Meet the real-life Jerry Maguire of NFL, Sean Stellato: also known as The Godfather, hes th

Let us introduce you to Sean Stellato.

Sean Stellato is a former athlete

He may be representing athletes now, but Stellato knows what it’s like to put it all on the line for sport. He was raised in Salem, Massachusetts and attended Marist College, per People. During his time there, he was a wide receiver on the sponsored football team.

Per his website, he was chosen to be part of the Maac all-academic team for football and basketball. He also played in the Arena Football League for a few seasons and became a sports agent to stay close to the game.

He had a loving childhood

Stellato told NY Post that he was six when his dad gave him a football. He added that football – and the hard work he put into the sport – guided his life as a whole. He was dyslexic as a child, he revealed – but he grew up knowing he was loved.

“I had tremendous love and support from my mum and dad – eight of us in a three-bedroom house – so I looked at it [as] we were wealthy in that component,” he said.

Stellato was also open about being overlooked as an athlete when he was growing up: “I just want to be the poster child for the underdog. They often say circumstances don’t define a person, they reveal them.”

He’s a family man

In 2005, Sean married his wife Krista, with whom he has four daughters – Gianna, Sophia, Giulietta and Siena.

While his social media is mostly filled with NFL updates, he does share moments from his personal life here and there too – from Siena’s preschool graduation to Sophia competing in a national gymnastics competition and attending a Taylor Swift concert with Gianna. Sean definitely looks to be a proud girl dad.

He’s the founder of Stellato Sports

Stellato said in a podcast interview that he saw the 1996 hit flick Jerry Maguire – starring Tom Cruise as a sports agent – and thought it was “kinda cool”.

He founded his company Stellato Sports (SES Sports) in 2013, but he has been an agent for 18 years, representing Joe Vellano, Shaun Draughn, Tye Smith and Alfred Morris. SES Sports offers skills camps, conditioning coaching and player events and promotions.

He’s proudly Italian-American

Stellato told Salem News that he inherited values from his immigrant grandparents, who influence the work he does daily. Per People, Stellato’s grandparents had US$14 to their name when they first went to America, and made their money as shoemakers.

In 2023, Stellato was inducted into the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame. During a game in December that year, sports broadcaster and former quarterback Peyton Manning referred to him as Johnny Fontane from The Godfather – and the nickname stuck.

Stellato loves his grandmother’s fashion

Stellato’s signature fedora, pinstripe suits and colourful outfits have caught the attention of football fans across the world. Stellato told NY Post that he is proud of his heritage and likes to dress outside the box, saying his outfits are actually inspired by his grandmother.

“My late grandmother Littizza worked at a men’s clothing store ‘til she was 86 years old,” he said. “They used to bring me home goodies during the holidays and get dressed up. We called her ‘owa’, she was my inspiration, and she loved me ‘til she passed.”

He added that his hat is a tribute to all Italians: “The hat was for the heritage, for all the Italianos that came before me that wore the fedora. The fedora’s a staple in Italy, and we’re trying to bring it back a little bit in America.”
